Do you have a disability? Are you looking to study after Class 10? The Indian government offers the Post Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities (PMS for SwDs). This scheme provides financial help to continue your education.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment runs this program. The main goal is to help students with disabilities overcome financial and physical barriers. This way, you can get a good education and secure a better future.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

You must meet three main rules to apply for this scholarship. Check the list below to see if you qualify:

Academic Status: You must be pursuing a post-matriculation course. This includes Class 11, Class 12, diplomas, polytechnics, graduation, or post-graduation.

Disability Requirement: You must have a minimum of 40% disability. A competent medical authority must certify this.

Income Limit: The total annual family income must be less than ₹2.5 lakh. This includes income from all sources.

Also, only two children with disabilities from one family can get this scholarship. Twins are the only exception to this rule. You cannot hold any other government scholarship at the same time.

What Financial Help Do You Get?

The scheme gives money for different costs. This includes:

Maintenance Allowance: Up to ₹1,600 per month for hostellers. Up to ₹750 per month for day scholars.

Book Allowance: ₹1,500 per year to buy books and stationery.

Disability Allowance: An extra annual allowance based on your disability type. For example, visually impaired students get ₹4,000 per year. Other types get ₹2,000 or more.

Fee Reimbursement: The scheme covers non-refundable fees like tuition fees.

The amount depends on the course group you join. Courses like Medicine and Engineering fall into the top payment group.
