CBSE Issues Strict Guidelines for Class 10, 12 Practical Exams 2026

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released an important reminder for all its affiliated schools regarding the conduct of Class 10 and Class 12 practical examinations, projects, and internal assessments for the 2025–26 academic session. The notification emphasizes strict compliance with CBSE guidelines to ensure transparency and uniformity across all schools.
According to the official notice issued on January 1, 2026, the board has made it clear that any deviation from prescribed rules may lead to serious disciplinary action against the concerned institutions.
CBSE Class 10, 12 Practical Exams 2026 Schedule
CBSE confirmed that the annual practical examinations, project work, and internal assessments for Classes 10 and 12 commenced on January 1, 2026, and must be completed within the officially notified timeline.
Assessment Period: January 1, 2026 to February 14, 2026
Applicable Classes: Class 10 and Class 12
Session: Academic Year 2025–26
All schools are required to strictly follow the timeline without any extensions.
Key Guidelines Issued by CBSE for Schools
To ensure smooth and fair evaluation, CBSE has directed schools to follow these essential instructions:
Schools must schedule practical exams on time and ensure adequate availability of answer books and laboratory resources.
Proper infrastructure must be arranged for all students, including Children With Special Needs (CWSN).
Schools must inform students and parents well in advance about exam dates and procedures.
CBSE-appointed external examiners must be contacted early to avoid last-minute issues.
In case of shortages or logistical challenges, schools must immediately approach the CBSE Regional Office.
Marks Upload & Verification Instructions
CBSE has also issued strict instructions regarding marks submission:
Marks for practical exams, projects, and internal assessments must be uploaded on the same day of the examination.
Uploaded marks must be verified immediately by the Principal, Internal Examiner, and External Examiner.
Once results are declared, no corrections will be allowed under any circumstances.
External examiners must ensure their attendance and documentation is properly recorded.
Important: If an unauthorized external examiner conducts Class 12 practical exams, the entire assessment will be declared invalid.
Instructions for Students
CBSE has clarified that:
Students must strictly follow the official assessment schedule.
No exemptions will be granted for students participating in sports events, even at national or international levels.
No special or separate practical exams will be arranged for any candidate.
CBSE Warning on Rule Violations
The board reiterated that any negligence, manipulation, or violation of guidelines will result in strict action against schools and officials involved. CBSE aims to maintain credibility, fairness, and consistency in the evaluation process nationwide.
