Assam Winter Holidays Extended: Kamrup Schools to Remain Closed

Schools across Assam’s Kamrup (Metropolitan) district have been officially closed until January 6, 2026, due to severe winter conditions and dense fog affecting the region. The decision was taken to ensure the safety and well-being of students amid an ongoing cold wave.
According to district authorities, all government and provincialised schools will remain shut from December 31, 2025, to January 6, 2026, while regular academic activities will resume on January 7, 2026.
Reason for School Closure in Assam
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast:
Light rainfall in isolated areas of Assam
Shallow to moderate fog during early morning hours
Persistently low temperatures due to an intense cold wave
These weather conditions prompted the district administration to temporarily suspend classes as a precautionary measure.
Official Notification from Assam Government
The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the decision, stating that the closure aims to protect students from harsh weather risks. Schools have also been instructed to:
Inform students, parents, and staff about the closure
Suspend all academic and co-curricular activities during the holiday period
Ensure smooth reopening and regular attendance from January 7, 2026
When Will Schools Reopen?
School Closure Dates: December 31, 2025 – January 6, 2026
Classes Resume: January 7, 2026
Parents and students are advised to stay updated through official school channels and district announcements in case of any further weather-related changes.
