RBSE Exam Twice a Year from 2026-27 Class 10 & 12 New Rules

In a monumental, student-friendly reform aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has announced that it will conduct the Class 10 (Secondary) and Class 12 (Senior Secondary) examinations twice a year.
This landmark decision, aimed at drastically reducing academic stress and providing students with multiple opportunities to excel, will be officially implemented starting from the Academic Session 2026-27. Rajasthan now joins the select group of states and boards embracing this progressive examination model.
How the RBSE 'Exams Twice' System Will Work
The core objective of this new system is to prioritize student performance and eliminate the 'one-time, high-stakes' pressure associated with traditional board examinations.
Compulsory First Attempt: The first board examination, likely to be held during the traditional February/March window, will be compulsory for all students.
Optional Second Attempt: Students will have the option to appear for a second board examination later in the academic year (e.g., May/June).
Best Score Considered: The biggest relief for students is the provision that the higher score obtained in either of the two attempts will be considered the final mark and will be reflected in the final mark sheet.
Stress Reduction: This flexibility ensures that a student having a bad day or facing an illness during the first attempt is not penalized for their entire academic career, thereby genuinely reducing exam anxiety.
Official Stance: The move is a direct reflection of the NEP 2020's focus on competency-based evaluation and reducing the rigidity of the education system. The state education department confirmed that detailed guidelines regarding the syllabus coverage and mark distribution for both attempts will be released soon.
Aligning with NEP 2020: A Progressive Step
The implementation of the two-session exam model positions the Rajasthan Board as a leader in educational reform. This system is designed to:
Promote Mastery: It encourages students to approach the exams as learning experiences rather than single points of failure, allowing them to improve their conceptual understanding over time.
Increase Subject Retention: Students can focus on improving scores in specific weaker subjects in the second attempt, promoting continuous learning rather than rote memorization.
Boost Confidence: Knowing there is a second chance can significantly enhance student confidence and mental well-being throughout the academic session.
What RBSE Students Need to Know
While the system starts from the 2026-27 session, current students in Class 10 and 12 (2025-26 batch) will still appear under the existing annual examination scheme.
Upcoming Students: Students who enter Class 10 or Class 12 in the 2026-27 session will be the first beneficiaries of this new dual-exam structure.
Syllabus Details: The RBSE will soon release an updated circular outlining how the full syllabus will be managed across the two attempts, though it is expected that the full curriculum will be covered in both.
This structural change by the Rajasthan Board is a positive leap forward, promising a future where board examinations are seen not as an end, but as a flexible step in the learning journey. Students are advised to follow the official RBSE website, rajeduboard.rajasthan.gov.in, for the release of the operational guidelines.
