Union Public Service Commission has announced the UPSC Combined Defence Services Exams (UPSC CDS 1 Result 2026) 1 Result 2026 on May 8, 2026. The commission has released the merit list containing the roll numbers of successful candidates who have cleared the written exams. A total of 8,826 candidates have qualified for the next stage of the recruitment process, which is the Service Selection Board (SSB) interview conducted by the Ministry of Defence. The UPSC CDS 1 exam was conducted on April 12, 2026 for recruitment against 451 vacancies. The English paper was held in the morning session from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the General Knowledge paper from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM, while the Elementary Mathematics exams took place from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

 

Steps to Check UPSC CDS 1 Merit List 2026

 

Candidates can view the merit list by visiting the official UPSC website and opening the “Written Result: Combined Defence Services Exams (I), 2026” link available in the “What’s New” section. The result PDF will appear on the screen, where candidates can search their roll number using the search option. Those whose roll numbers are listed in the PDF have successfully qualified for the SSB interview stage. Applicants are advised to download and save the UPSC CDS 1 result 2026 PDF for future reference.

 

Candidates who selected the Indian Military Academy (IMA) or Officers Training Academy (OTA) as their first preference are required to register themselves on the Indian Army recruitment portal after qualifying the written exams. After completing registration, they will receive details regarding the SSB interview call-up. Candidates who are already registered do not need to apply again. UPSC has also instructed applicants to immediately report any change in address to the respective Army, Navy, or Air Force headquarters.

 

The commission has announced important deadlines for document submission as well. Candidates applying for IMA and INA must submit their required documents by January 1, 2027. Those seeking admission to the Air Force Academy need to complete document submission by November 13, 2026, while candidates for SSC courses at OTA have time until April 1, 2027. UPSC has further advised candidates not to send original certificates directly to the commission.
