New CBSE Improvement Exam 2026 for Class 10 Students
In a landmark move aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) officially announced the introduction of a Second Board Examination for Class 10 on March 16, 2026. This initiative aims to reduce student pressure by providing a formal opportunity to improve academic performance within the same academic cycle.
Key Highlights and Eligibility for CBSE Class 10 Improvement Exam
The CBSE Board Exam 2026 second session is specifically designed for students who appeared in the first February/March exams. Under the new guidelines, students can opt to improve their scores in up to three main subjects, including Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and various languages.
Who Can Apply:
Students who passed the first exam
Students who received a ‘Compartment’ result
Who Cannot Apply:
Students who failed in three or more subjects
Students marked with ‘Essential Repeat’ (ER)
The Class 10 improvement exam will follow the same syllabus as the main board exam. However, Internal Assessment marks cannot be changed or retaken.
Registration and LOC Submission
For students to participate, schools must submit the List of Candidates (LOC). The registration process has been divided into multiple phases:
1st Phase LOC Submission: March 18 – 31, 2026
2nd Phase LOC Submission: 1 day after result declaration for 5 days
3rd Phase LOC Submission (with Late Fee): 7 days after result declaration for 2 days
Principals have been instructed to inform parents that examination centers for this second phase may not be in the student’s home city and cannot be changed once allotted.
Strategic Planning for Students
This Second Board Examination acts as a valuable safety net for Class 10 students. By allowing improvement in three subjects — especially Science and Math improvement — CBSE is creating a more flexible and student-friendly learning environment under NEP 2020.
Students are advised to coordinate with their school authorities immediately during the first phase of LOC submission to secure their place and prepare effectively for the upcoming exams in May 2026.
