NEET UG 2026 NTA Guidelines and March 8 Deadline

With the countdown beginning for India’s largest medical entrance exam, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a final set of mandatory guidelines for all NEET UG 2026 aspirants. As the registration window is set to close on March 8, 2026, thousands of students are rushing to complete their applications for the exam scheduled for May 3, 2026.

To ensure a smooth process and avoid the risk of application rejection, candidates must adhere to the following updated protocols.

Essential Photo and Document Specifications

The NTA has tightened its scrutiny regarding candidate identification. One of the most common reasons for application flagging is incorrect imagery.

  • Recent Photographs: Photos must be taken recently (preferably after January 1, 2026).
  • The 80% Rule: The face must cover at least 80% of the photo, with ears clearly visible against a white background.
  • Aadhaar Authentication: Ensure your mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar card, as the NTA uses real-time authentication to verify candidate identity.

Key Dates for the NEET 2026 Correction Window

If you have already submitted your form but realized you made a typo, don't panic. The NTA has confirmed a dedicated NEET 2026 Correction Window.

  • Window Opens: March 10, 2026
  • Window Closes: March 12, 2026 (11:50 PM)

During this brief period, students can edit minor details such as their category, choice of exam city, and medium of question paper. However, core data like the registered email ID and mobile number cannot be changed.

Preparing for the May 3 Exam

As of today, March 6, candidates have less than two months of preparation time left. The competition is expected to be fierce, with over 25 lakh students vying for seats in MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH courses across the country.

The NTA reminds students that the exam will follow the traditional pen-and-paper (OMR) format. Aspirants are advised to download their city intimation slips, which are expected to be released in the third week of April, followed by the official admit cards.

Final Checklist Before Submission

Before hitting the 'Submit' button on the official portal, ensure you have:

  1. Scanned copies of your Postcard size photograph and left/right-hand fingers and thumb impressions.
  2. A valid Class 10 certificate for name and DOB verification.
  3. Payment confirmation page (save this as a PDF).

The Medical Entrance Exam India landscape is more competitive than ever this year. Missing the March 8 deadline could mean waiting an entire year, so act fast to secure your spot.
