National Testing Agency announced the cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 Exams on May 12, 2026, creating widespread concern among students and parents across the country. The medical entrance test had originally been conducted on May 3, but serious allegations regarding a paper leak and the circulation of “guess papers” on social media forced authorities to take strict action. NTA Faces Criticism After Guess Paper Controversy Sparks Nationwide Concern

The controversy intensified after reports claimed that a large number of questions in the actual Exams closely resembled those found in leaked study material shared before the test. According to investigations, a so-called guess paper containing more than 100 questions was recovered, and nearly 140 questions were allegedly similar to those asked in the final exam. This raised major concerns about the fairness and transparency of the Exams process.

Initial reports of irregularities emerged from Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, prompting authorities to begin investigations. Rajasthan’s Special Operations Group started probing the matter, and soon the issue gained national attention. At first, the NTA rejected claims of any paper leak and stated that the Exams had been conducted under strict security arrangements, including biometric checks, CCTV monitoring powered by AI technology, GPS tracking systems, and signal jammers. However, the agency later acknowledged receiving information related to suspicious activities on May 7 and forwarded the matter to central agencies the following day.

The investigation has now been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Meanwhile, student organizations, including members of the NSUI, staged protests outside the Ministry of Education in Delhi, demanding accountability and major reforms in the country’s Exams system.

Around 22 to 24 lakh candidates who appeared in NEET UG 2026 will now be required to sit for the Exams again. The NTA has confirmed that fresh Exams will be conducted, although the revised schedule has not yet been announced. Students have also been informed that they will not need to fill out new application forms for the re-exam.

This incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding the management of major competitive Exams in India. Similar controversies related to paper leaks, grace marks, and topper disputes had also affected NEET in 2024, leading to nationwide protests and legal proceedings in the Supreme Court.
